COACHING STAFF
MIKE NGUYEN
Head Coach
Coach Nguyen is in his fifth season of coaching at Northridge. He grew up in California where he played volleyball in high school. After high school, he moved to Utah for college where he eventually graduated from Weber State. He briefly played on their men's club team. Coach Nguyen's educational background is in psychology and he currently works in the higher education setting. In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family and friends.
AMELIA NEWKIRK
Assistant Coach
Coach Newkirk is in her seventh season of coaching with the boys team at Northridge. She graduated from Northridge High where she played volleyball for three years. During her senior year, her team went undefeated in region play and entered the state tournament ranked second in the state. As a junior, Coach Newkirk helped her team take fourth place at the state tournament--the best finish in Northridge history.
PAUL TAVAKE
Assistant Coach
Coach Tavake is starting his second season as an assistant coach for the Northridge program. He grew up in Southern California where he played one year of club volleyball in Huntington Beach for OC Riptide, and four years of high school varsity for Santiago High School in Garden Grove. He's currently a Police Officer at Weber State University and is a Defensive Tactics and Taser Instructor. He enjoys spending time with friends and family and everything athletics and outdoors.
HALI FICKLIN
Assistant Coach
Coach Ficklin is a proud graduate of Northridge where she played volleyball for three years. After high school, Coach Ficklin attended Utah State University where she majored in exercise science. She currently is a mother of one and loves spending time with her husband and going to Jazz games.
MATT HEINER
Emeritus Coach
Coach Heiner is a former assistant coach at Northridge. He loves volleyball and has been playing indoor and outdoor for 30 years. He is happy to see the expansion of boys volleyball in Utah. Over the last 5 years, he has seen the growth of his sons as they have played for Northridge and club teams. He enjoys spending time with his family, cooking for them, playing sports, and being in the outdoors.
ANDY RAWLINGS
Emeritus Coach
Coach Rawlings is in his ninth year of teaching at Northridge High as a World History and PE teacher. He is the former head coach for the boys' club volleyball team, having led the program for five seasons. He is currently the club team's advisor.
Coach Rawlings graduated from Utah State where he played for the men's club volleyball team and volunteered as an assistant coach for the women's volleyball team for one season.
Coach Rawlings served as an assistant coach for the Northridge High girls team for four seasons.
